Pretending to be a Big Boy

2 Months

Dear Joshua,

It’s hard to believe that our little baby is already two months old, and not so little after all.  At your check up, you weighed 13lbs. 13oz., which is in the 95th percentile.  You’re 25.5 inches long, which is above the line for 100th percentile on the doctor’s chart.  If this keeps up, you might just take after your 6’5″ Uncle Nate.

You continue to be a joy in our lives, by smiling at us.  You like to smile when you first wake up from a nap, and sometimes you give us a great big smile when we beep your nose, read or sing to you.  Mommy especially loves it when you smile while nursing.

You’re a snuggly baby and love to cuddle with us, especially when you’re sleeping.  You will sleep in your swing now, but you still prefer to be held during naps.  You sleep for 2 to 4 hour stretches at night, then you want to eat and be changed, and you’ll go back to sleep.  You tend to go to sleep for the night around 8:00pm and want to get up in the morning between 6:00 and 8:00 am.  You sleep later on weekends when Daddy’s not up and moving around early in the morning.

You like to take baths and kick your feet in the warm water.  You sit contently for a long time in the warm water, and only cry when we take you out.

You like to look at the baby and Mommy in the mirror, and will happily gaze at yourself in the mirror on the swing, gym, or even in the car for a little while.  You’re getting better about riding in the car and will look around or out the windows, but sometimes you still cry.  You like to ride in the front carrier and be close to Mommy when we go shopping or for walks.

You’ve been out and about in the last month.  You’ve visited Mommy’s school, your Grandma’s school, two different beaches, the farm, Grandpa’s construction site, two different farmer’s markets, and your Grandparents’ houses.  You like to go visit Daddy at work every once in a while, too.  You’ve even helped us plant our vegetable garden.

When we look back at all the things we’ve done together, it’s amazing you’ve only been with us for two months.  It’s hard to remember life without you!

Love,

Mommy and Daddy
